A supervised lunch area is provided for campers enrolled in two half-day sessions or an all-day (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) session.  Discovery Camp does not provide lunch.

Dropping off and picking up your child/ren:

Our check-in and pick-up entrance for camp is along the side of the museum past the main entrance; pull into the parking area on your right and continue towards the back of the museum, near the cafe. At the end of the road, we have a gated entrance for campers. Summer camp staff will be at the gate to meet you.  Please DO NOT park in the red zone! Parents must sign-in your child. If you arrive after 9:00 am, please call us at (415) 339-3961.

Late Fees:

An additional $1 per minute care fee applies for all children remaining more than five minutes past their registered pick-up time. This fee applies to all emergencies without exception. If you are going to be late, please call the camp emergency cell phone at (415) 339-3961 to alert camp staff.

Extended Care:

Children enrolled in our extended care program should now also be dropped and/or picked up at the front of the site.  They will be escorted to or from the extended care space by Camp Staff.  There will be an opportunity to sign up for additional Extended Care.  If you sign up for Extended Care the week your child is enrolled in camp, the cost is $40 per child for the morning, lunch or afternoon hour.

Food Allergies:

Many children have severe nut allergies.  Please do not send nuts or nut products including peanut butter in your children’s lunch.  We also recommend children do not exchange or share food at lunch and snack time.

What should my child wear?

Please send your child in old clothes that you do not mind getting dirty.  While we use washable products, stains can still occur.  During our camps children play all around the museum and outdoors, and they can sometimes tear, damage or stain clothes!  It is also advisable to send them in layers; a typical summer day at Fort Baker can start out foggy, be warm by midday and back to freezing again in the afternoon.  Please send children in closed toe shoes for the safety of their little feet!

Toys:

Please encourage your children to leave stuffed animals, trading cards, and other toys at home.  Toys brought to camp often become lost or damaged.

Closed Hours:

The museum is closed every Monday.  Only Camp Staff and camp participants are allowed on site on Monday.  The museum closes at 4:00 PM Tuesday though Friday.  All visitors are expected to have left the site by this time.  Many of our camp programs end at 4:00 and it is tempting to spend some time on the site after closing time playing with your children.  This is strictly prohibited.  Museum staff has the responsibility to clean up the site and prepare for the following day.  All visitors, not under Camp Staff supervision, must be off the site by 4:00.

Medical Forms:

All of the necessary medical information was supplied at the time of your registration.  If you have special medical concerns, please alert staff on the first day of your child's camp.

Do you provide lunch?

No we do not provide lunch; children staying for lunch must bring it with them.  New for 2008, we will be providing a simple, nutritious snack in each camp session.

Who are the camp instructors?

All of the Lead Instructors are certified teachers, preschool teachers, experts in their crafts, or have a strong background in child development.   Our counseling staff is made up of dedicated young adults, many of whom played at The Bay Area Discovery Museum when they were little, and have previous experience working with children. Please see our blog to read their biographies, www.baykidsmuseum.org/blog!

Let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns.
